Resettlement in Yichang

Since the State Council called on the whole country to assist directionally(in partners) the migrants of the TGP in 1992, Yichang City seriously carried out the series of instructions to grasp all chances for its development. They insisted on the aim of serving the construction of the TGP, promoting the migrants "Move out ,resettle down and become rich".With the positive work of the local government,the derectional assistance is making great progress.

During the latest five years,the directional assistance to the reservoir area has been elaborated and is elaborating good economic and social benefits in Yichang.First,it enhances the moving of migrants and enterprises in the reservoir area efficiently.The migrants in the first water level of the reservoir area all moved out before the damming of the main channel of the Yangtze which ensured the construction of the TGP and the damming to go smoothly.Secondly,it enhances the economic development in the dam area efficiently.In the last five years, the value of the industrial output of the assisting items has reached more than 700 million yuan.Its profit tax reached 110 million yuan.According to the policy of directional assistance in the whole country,each unit of the dam and reservoir area set up items which not only solved the problem of the moving of the enterprise and the resettlement of the migrants,but also advanced the economic development of the whole reservoir area,even the whole city,and lays a good foundation for the reality of the second promotion of Yichang.

The moving of the inundated area of the first water level of the TGP was the essential presupposition of damming the main channel of the Yangtze,it was also much more complicated than the damming itself.After damming the main channel of the Yangtze,the water level would rise. There were seven counties partially in undated,so after the damming ,before the first flood season of the Yangtze came,the moving of over 30,000 migrants and 116 factories had to be completed.Five county seats and nineteen towns also had a lot of moving tasks.In order to complete the TGP earlier,the first large moving in the area of the first water level began.In October,1997,the first moving was successively completed.There were over 90,000 migrants of the Three Gorges moved,including 51,661 migrants in Yichang.Yichang City helped to resettle 2,170 migrants.The second stage of the migration affect around 400,000 people.The task of the second stage of the migrants resettlement from 1998 to 2003 is pledging that the water level of the Three Gorges Reservoir is 135 metres and ensure to generate electricity on time.
