Water Resources
Yichang has a crisscross network of
rivers,and it is the largest water resources centre in China.The
estimated future installed capacity of power of the river can be
more than 30 million kw.The Geheyan Project on the Qingjiang River
has the installed capacity of 1.2 million kw.The TGP under
construction will have the installed capacity of 18.2 million
kw.The total installed capacity of the above mentioned will be 23
million kw.The other two projects－Gaobazhou Dam and Banxia Dam on
the Qingjiang River will have the installed capacity of 1 million
kw respectively.The hydro-energy in Yichang is in a gigantic
scale,with no match elsewhere in the world.
Mineral Resources
There are 57 kinds of mineral resources
discovered in the city.They are stored over 1,000 places.There are
94 large-scale or medium-size mineral deposits.The resources of
some minerals are still uncertain. The reserve of apatite is 1.12
billion tons,smoky quartz 6.42 million tons, manganese mire 11.67
million tons,iron ore 0.68 billion tons,heavy spar 8 million
tons,coal 0.15 billion tons,and sulphur iron ore 23.79 million
tons.The reserve of the limestone for cement is 0.31billion tons,
and that for calcium carbide is 0.5 billion tons.The reserve of
silica ore is 35 million tons, argentojarosite 6.39 million tons
and mercury ore 13.14 million tons.
 Tourism
Resources
With 20 years' efforts after the reform and
opening policy,Yichang's tourism has been developed as an
important economic industry equipped with a strong infrastructures
basis and a certain industry scale.Today Yichang has been transformed
into an ideal place for sightseeing and vacation.
Yichang's tourism resources have distinguishing features.All over
the city there are attractive natural sceneries,beautiful
landscapes and grand modern projects.There are more than 350
scenic spots.The Xiling Gorge of the Yangtze River is an important
part of the Three Gorges Corridor which is one of the ten places
most famous for their scenery and historical relics in the whole
country.The Gezhouba Water Control Project is one of the 40 famous
scenic spot in the country.The TGP being built is a grand project
which is drawing close attention of the whole world.Zigui is the
hometown of Quyuan who was a great poet in the Chinese
history.Xingshan is the hometown of Wang Zhaojun, who was a great
beauty and married to Huhanye,leader of the Xiongnu tribe, and
made great contribution to the union between the Han nationality
and the Mongol nationality.Changyang is the relic of the ancient
Changyang Man.And Yidu is the well-known scholar,Yang Shoujing's
hometown.There are ruins of the ancient battlefield of the Three
Kingdoms Period and Mount Jade Fountain which was called "The
Famous Mount of the State of Chu".Yuquan (Jade Fountain) Temple is
one of the four religious wonders in China.Other places like the
graceful Qingjiang River,the scenery of Gaolan,the attractive
cableway,forest and caves are all ideal tourist places for
tourists both at home and abroad.
 Forests
and Specialities
In Yichang there are more than 17 million
mu (1.13 million hectares) land fit for planting trees,and 12
million mu(800 thousand hectares) for forest.The reserve of lumber
is more than 24 million m3, 48% of land is forest.It is one of the
most important areas that produces lumber in Hubei
Province.Yichang is the first city to make itself green with
grasses and trees in Hubei Province.There are various local
specialities in Yichang.Yichang produces high-quality tea and
oranges.It's quite famous for umbilicus oranges and peach leaf
oranges in Zigui and Xingshan,the mandarin in Yichang,tea in
Wufeng,black tea in Yidu,ya silk in Yuan'an etc.It also produces
tobacco leaf ,fiber crops,sugarcane,mushroom,edible fungus,day
lily,walnut,chestnut,Chinese oil,paddy rice,sesame and peanut
etc.Some of them are traditional export products.
