Yichang in Foreigners' Eyes
On March 14,2002,the
Foreign Affairs Office of Yichang Municipal Goverment held a
farewell evening for 9 Canadian youths.These youths had worked and
studied in Yichang with their Chinese partners for the past three
months and they lived in their partners' houses. This is a new
item of international cultural exchanges Between Yichang and
Canada.
Regarding their impressions of Yichang ,one said that Yichang was
a charming and lively city with distinguishing features and that
they were all deeply moved by the folk's hospitality.They
expressed that they would surely come back again to Yichang and
they were right now facing the most hard time to say good-bye.
I n
the afternoon of Feburary 15,2003, the 2003 Yichang Folk Arts
Competition was held in the Yiling Square. Numerous fascinating
performances were put on shown.It attracted thousands of people.
Among the audience,the most noticeable were 9 Canadian young
people. They were busy taking photos and videos.Daron,captain of the
Canadian team,said:"Yichang gives me very good impression with its
beautiful scenery and distinguishing culture.I have never seen
such wonderful performances before.Just wonderful! I have finished
5 pieces of films and I hope I can share these beautiful songs and
dances with my Canadian friends."
On the evening of May 1, 2002,hundreds of honorable guests and
athletes participating in the 3rd Yichang Three Gorges
International Dragon Boat Rally, practiced "Ba Shan Dance"
with the local people in the Yiling Square.
Michael Harrison, executive president of the International Dragon
Boat Association,said:"I like 'Ba Shan Dance' very much!It's
really interesting!"
Zhang Zhaohong, master coach of the Chinese Taipei Team,said:"It
is quite similar to Taiwan's boong dance for its beautiful
national costume and elegant body postures.We enjoy practicing Ba
Shan Dance with the natives on the square.It's so exciting."
